If the Dallas Mavericks win the 2011 NBA Championship, they will be only the 9th team to win it since the 1979-1980 season (the first 8 teams are the Lakers, 76ers, Celtics, Bulls, Rockets, Spurs, Pistons and Heat). Yes, 31 years and only 8 champions. That stat should be very discouraging to a lot of teams because there’s no such thing as building winners. It’s all about the money baby. It’s a known fact that you can buy a ring in these leagues, but it just feels wrong to see these basketball and baseball teams doing it. The next three or four seasons will probably have maybe three or four teams battling for the spot because most of the all-star players fear leading a teams on their own so they want to all pile up on one team to chase that ring together. Well small market teams, good luck in the future and hopefully we can get a 10th NBA champion within the next 30 years.
