It happened: Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders is heading to the Pac 12 and joining the Colorado Buffaloes. I love this hire for the Buffs and I also love this move for Coach Prime. While I enjoyed watching Sanders in the SWAC with Jackson State, the thing about coaching is that it’s about elevation. That’s not to say that Jackson State is a steppingstone, but this is what happens in the world of coaching.

I have been seeing a lot of criticism about the move online from fans of Jackson State but,  at the end of the day, Deion did what he had to do while in the conference. Sanders led the Tigers to an undefeated season and won the SWAC championship. He also managed to have a 27-5 record since stepping in the world of being a college coach.  Not only did he get the wins, he managed to get ESPN’s College Game Day to Jackson, Mississippi to put the city in the spotlight.

While I am not a fan of coaches leaving in the middle of contracts, it happens. Coaches leave in the middle of contracts; coaches also get fired in the middle of them. It’s the world we live in. What should count is the impact the coaches made while they were at the school.

I am excited to see where this will land the Buffs. They have a beautiful campus, and the sky can be the limit. Coach Prime will get the players, but finding out  if will be able to coach at the Power 5 level is what we all have to watch and see.

Congrats to Coach Prime and Congrats to Boulder. This will be a really fun or really stressful journey. Jackson State, I just want to leave you with some of words of a young, great, wise woman “Everyday the sun won’t shine, but that’s why I love tomorrow”- Glorilla.
